Well.....
What i want is to build my own tank 2 foot wide x 2foot deep x 4 foot high,
then get a load of angels in it, as i fell in love with them from the first time i saw them....

The reason i want to build my own tank is that i cant find a tank large enough to keep me happy, that will fit into the space i have avalable. (plus i like building things)

Are angles easy to keep? and there has been concers raised over the fact that the tank only has a small surface area (in contact with the air) and so there me be issues with oxygenating the water.
And will a tank that size if made at home need re-inforceing some how or will the silicone hold the ammount of water?

OK, the silicon should be happy to hold that much water, it's amazingly strong, but having said that, it can't hurt to reinforce on the bottom with a bit of a frame. i would probably use 1/2" glass as well because pressure is all about depth, not amount of water. (hydrostatic pressure = (Rho) x g x h which is 1000x9.81xheight in metres) i'm not standing in front of a calc at the mo but i'll do it if you need, should be simple enough from there though. google strengths of glass per inch and you should find a suitable thickness.

Also i'm not sure about how many gallons that holds but 4' by 2' by 2' sounds big enough to me, how many angels you looking to get cos they're pretty terratorial?

I'd say 4ft is going to cause you no end of problems, theres the surface area, lighting, circulation... A 2ft cube would be more than adequate, but if you have room I'd go longer. You still wouldn't be able to keep that many angels in it, btw.

2 feet deep is plenty for angels, any tank deeper than this will cause problems with maintainance. I'm armpit deep in a 2 foot tank, get a snorkel to work on the bottom of a 4 foot deep tank.

Valid point, how long are your arms?

i would have thought that 4² feet would be enough surface area. i only have 4.5² feet on my 3' tank

*Edit: on second thought, i've seen tanks of 4' or even deeper with smaller surface area house angels. they must have a way to clean up that although i don't know how.

well maybe i`d go for 2 and a half foot deep...

How do you know how many angels you can fit in a tank? is it so many per cubic feet?

and 2 foot x 2 foot is defiantely all the floor space i can spare..
as i`m now going for a shallower tank is there any where that i would be but a tank this size from?
