Well, after a year of introducing myself to this hobby, I think its time to take it further and get some more tanks ect.

But where should I go from here?

So far I've learnt from my mistakes with my 17gal tank, diseases, tests, food, fertilizers and the all.
Currently I'm cycling my tank as I restarted completely.

I know just a little more than the basics I reckon but want to know what to do next.

Any Ideas?

I would concentrate on getting this one sorted first, then if/when you get another tank you will have some cycled media and more experience. :good:

Right what i can say is the bigger the better and the easier

then it is better to read through all the stickies and brush up on all the cycling info then you are ready to look at new tanks

best thing to is to buy the biggest tank you can afford be it new or used and have a place already waiting (if you by a 6ft tank but only have 4ft room)

Yeah, money is my main problem though, a 14 year old with just a paper round...

first get your other tank fully functioning and working correctly

it can be a long process fish choosing so go for the easier fish in the current tank with the odd shrimp things that dont really make too much mess of you stocking

then go visit some shops (i know not many arround you ) and start to look at the type of fish you would really like as you do this for a few months gives you chance to settle down with the current tank and save some money up at the same time and you will also learn alot more about fish keeping if you go too quickly you can fall into a trap of getting annoyed with the hobby because it has caught you out in one way or the other

my old lfs used to let kids by a tank by going in their and paying them so much a week and then when they paid for it took it home might be an option for you with the lfs

if you really want a second tank now try a small 5 gallon one with a betta in it or even a dwarf puffer but remeber to do things correctly

this forum and ones like it are a great way to learn about the hobby and this is always the best way to do things you learn befor you act

Just found out I have some non-aquatic plants lol, stupid me, wondered why they were dying.

Saving up is going to take AGES as I don't get a lot coming in if not at times anything.
Looks like no dinner at school and saving my £2's a day up (no joke).

i know it can seem like an expensive hobby at times especially for us younger ones. when did you get the plants, is there no way you could return them?

I bought them 2 days ago, I'm just going to pot them in soil tomorrow.

I'm going to be getting £10 a week with my dinner money.
The problem then will be explaining to my mum how I got the money.

how far is your birthday off or even xmas

tell your parents if you keep the tank you have now with next to no fatalities till then would they by one for you

go and ask the local fish shops if they want a parttime worker

My mums just spent £50 on gravel, air pump, tubing, fish and plants which she does like once a year.
I'm going to have to be ALL THE WAY until September as she isn't fond of getting a new tank as she thinks I only need one.

sit down with her and say if i was too look after the tank i have now to show how responsible i am would i be possible for me to get a bigger tank

she should decide that if you have got the same tank and the inhabitants it is not just a fad and you really do care about what you are asking for

also another option would be try to convice her they would make a great center peice in the front room and she might warm to the idea of having a 4ft tank in the house lol
