Is there anyone on here from Ireland that could tell me where I will find suitable ammonia? What shops would stock it?

Only online in my area. Try finding the Kleen Off brand online. And it is 9%, not 9.5%

Taken directly from Jeyes safety data sheet for Kleen Off:

And a direct quote from an email response when I asked about using their product for fishless cycling:

"Due to the ammonia value varying between 9% - 10% in individual batches/bottles a statistical value of 9.5% should be used for your calculations"

HTH

I got mine from here and it says 9%

http://www.africanaquatic.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=130

I've always treated it as 9% when dosing and it shows correct, but not sure how much difference a 0.5% would have anyway.

Just don't get it from Homebase. I got mine from there and it had surfactants in and cost me an absolute fortune in lost plants / wasted time. Make sure you give it a shake before you start using it to check it doesn't froth.

You can get it from Homebase. There is one with, and one without surfactants, so just check the label. It was also 9.5% and cost a gigantic 85p here. I assume you have Homebase there, but if you don't then sorry! But I tested it and the results in my container made sense for the concentration, too.

The one I had, which DID have surfactants, does not state anything about surfactants on the label. It's one that's been recommended for years on another forum and probably on here too, but it DOES now have surfactants. I'm talking about homebase value ammonia and there is basically zero information about anything on the label. I'm just trying to make sure nobody goes through the same nightmare introduction to fish that I've had. 5 weeks on and I'm just about getting back to square one.

It is always worth sending an email to the manufacturer asking for the product data sheet (which they have to supply by law) if you are unsure. This will give you full details of the product and it's contents which as stated are not always shown on the bottle.

I bought Homebase value ammonia two months ago, at the most, and it was definitely only ammonia. This is strange, and probably worth an email to the company.

Just got some from homebase, gave it a shake some bubbles rose but they quickly went away! Time to begin the long process :(

Hoping nothing goes wrong, don't have any plants wood or rocks in it yet so if it does go belly up it won't be too bad
