I was wanting to try to find a nice attractive betta set up :)

I recently seen one that has about 6individual tanks/boxes next to each other with a light above and filter and heater etc.

I have never really been into bettas but these ones were beautiful. I think they are something that if i had a kick #### set up would really enjoy.

Can anyone suggest a good set up or place to buy a set up from?

I currently have:
4ft cichlid tank
3ft communal tank
1 38ltr hospital tank

so i figure a betta tank would top off my collection :D

Is there anywhere i can read up about keeping bettas? Food, water levels habits etc etc?

buy as long as a tank as you can afford, then divide it. I use black mesh needlepoint backing, and black report spines. you can either silicon the home made dividers in, or use suction cups. if you are going for a very sleak set up, I would use silicon to look nicer.

black sand could look nice in the bottem, also anchors the dividers very well. and I would go all out and make it very well planted.

also depending on the size of the divided spaces, in each space, you could try a type of small cory- provided the betta in that space gt along with them. well at least that is my idea of the ultimate betta show tank :)

heres a pic of a 10 gallon divided for my girls, I went with no substraite and suction cups becaue this tank is not the "nice" tank in the living room. and it is faster to clean.

you've obviously not seen the mess i get into when i use silicone as modaz & ibble will vouch    Suctions cups is sounding a good option for next time lol

Hi
If you got yourself a nice long tank, you could get a glazier to cut glass partitions to silicone in. If the sections were big enough they could each have a sponge filter in, which would reduce the risk of spreading disease etc....

Or

The way i've done it, I used Penplax dividers which are held in place by using those black A4 paper binders. The binders are stuck in place using sealant. I then use sponge filters at either end. This is an example of one of them, although i've used this method to divide longer tanks.

^^^^

Do you use your under gravel filter and heater in your aqua start? I was thinking of turning that into a betta tank if i couldnt find a nice set up. I have two aqua start 320s kicking around...but my partner will kill me if i set up both of them!! Four tanks is lots!!! Otherwise i could do a betta set up with both tanks in our other lounge room.

I could get some of the binder things from work or just buy suction cups but the divider...no clue...

I know they dont like currents but what about an air stone?

some bettas are ok with them, more often females then males. you can try it if need be, but they would probebly be happy without.

There is Penplax dividers on ebay...are they easy to cut? If i get one the wrong size by chance..

What heater wattage/size should i put in? Will i need to get a heater cover?

I have spray bars but they would create too much current so i think i may need to get a couple of new internal filters...i use silk plants aswell as real plants and should I cycle the tanks?

The air stone would probly be part of the filter so i will have to think about this one...

the plastic of the divider is easy to trim to size. and whatever wattage for the size tank you need. bettas are good at temps between 78-82. although they can survive much higher and lower temps. cycleing the tank would be good, but cloneing would be even easier.

what I would do is after you get the tank set up and filled, all the parts working well. get your fish and then take a good sized chunk of filter out of one of your healthy tanks, replacing the used with new media in the old filter.

jam the used media in your new filter and just check the water stats in both new and old tanks for a few days, doing water changes if anything gets out of wack. I have never had to even do that, all my cloned betta tanks have been pretty much instant cycled.

I can steal water out of my cichlid tank and normal communal tank. Both of my tanks i want to turn into a betta tank have been in use before but running them for a bit cant be bad for them as i will need to lower the ph in the water from my cichlid tank. :)

using water from an existing tank won't really make any difference, there are very very minimal amounts of bacteria in the water column, as the majority of bacteria cling to surfaces (like the media in a filter) its best if you can fit some of the media from an old filter into the new(or used) filter in the betta tank. but if its not possible, you can put some used media in the sock of a pair of tights and suspend that in the tank near to the filter. but once you put the used media into the new tank you must add ammonia to the tank (or add the fish immediately) to feed the bacteria or it will all starve and die off.
