I was given 2 Pakistani Loaches from a friend who had to empty his tank due to a divorce. They settled in well along with 2 corys, plecs and 7 Rummy Noses. However 1 of the loaches has now disappeared. It is not hiding under my mopani wood where the other one spends all its time and nor is it in any of my plants. Could it have swam in the internal outlet pipe and become stuck? 3 days after i noticed it was missing all water readings remain within parameters which would suggest it is not dead and contaminating the water.

Im not too keen on the internal filter and recently purchased an eheim external filter and aim to start using this in the not too distance future however i have a Juwel Trigon 190 with Juwel rock background cut to size when the internal filter was in place, now i intend to remove the internal filter it will look ugly. Should i strip it all out and start again?

Any help would be appreciated.

Has it not buried itself in the substrate? The book I read say some species do that.

I had a lost loach just a few days ago! Although mine was a yoyo. we could not find him to save our lives!! Thought for sure he was a goner. After much searching last night, he was finally found in the drift/bogwood. Well we were convinvced he was stuck/crushed/dead. We had to move everything around to try and "save" him. Well, he was just fine and I don't even think he was stuck as he popped back up there as soon as we "rescued" him.
Point of the story is this little buggers can hide just about anywhere!!! He is probably just very well hidden and nervous/stressed after his move.
But, if possible take a look in your filter and see if you see any signs of him.
*EDIT* we didn't see him for 5 days!

hmm loache might be under the substrate i searched it

Hi ive just done the same to my trigon 350 (replaced the stock filter / heater) its amazing how it opens the tank up, although the background is expensive and looks nice it is a nightmare for algae and once the smooth surface rubs off (and it will) it will expose a cheap foam material that is useless. I used a very sharp and thin (like a long stanley blade) boning knife to carefully cut through the silicone then using plenty water and a stanley blade cleaned off any exess silicone. Ive just added a black external background and it looks top notch "obviously the juwel stuff did look better when it was new" but its just not worth the hassle.

cheers everyone.

Without a spare tank what options do i have with regards to where i can store my fish until it is up and running after i strip it down and start using the external filter?
