Where in the UK can you buy Sand

Sand suitable as substrate in my aquarium.

And also can you put sand in place with out removing all the water. I don't have another tank so my fish will have to live in a bucket for a few hours!!

I was thinking of having a half sand half gravel tank.with some large boulders and pebbles to keep the two apart with some nice plants. The existing gravel will contain the bacteria to keep the tank filtered.

Doubly important this. Sand DOES MAKE CLOUDY WATER when not cleaned well. VERY well! Take your time and do the best job you can, don't rush it.
Speaking from experience here - I thought I had been thorough, but got a nasty cloudy tank

Rarely works, they mix over a relatively short period. I use swimming pool filter sand from pool supplies shops. Look in Yellow Pages, there are a lot of them about.

Play sand from Argos is about £2.50 a bag. or if you want a more exotic looking sand, then you can get black sand from most LFS's, but it's more expensive at around £12 a bag!!

We have this in our 125L tank. CaribSea's Black sand, from our LFS. It was £12 a bag, and we needed two bags to make it two and a half inches deep.

It was worth it though, it looks fabulous!

In our other tanks we have unbranded silver sand, again from our LFS, this was also £12 a bag, but you get two and a half times as much. One bag was enough for Martha's 240L

Yup, if I get my 150g this week, I'm gonna deck it out in black sand. I figure I'll need at least 3 bags of it though!! Ouch!!!
