I'm just curious where you guys keep you tanks, especially the larger ones, I personally have my 105, 20 and 5 all in my room, but after doing some reading, I am considering moving my 105 to the basement due to all the weigh, I currently do have it perpendicular to the joists though. Where do you guys keep your large tanks? Also, please tell me if you think I should move my 105 to the basement lol.

Edit: After doing the math, my tank is 4 feet long and aprox 1000Ibs, and is perpendicular to the joists. The joists are 18in apart so it would span over 3 joists. The joists span 14 feet across my room. So according to my calculations, the area extending from the back of the wall where my tank is to the wall oppisite wall of the back of my tank would be able to hold around 2400Ibs if my floor is rated to hold 40psf. So I'd be good?

I keep all my tanks in my kitchen, the kitchen in my house is very large (it used to be two rooms at some point in the past) and already had a solid concrete floor when we bought the place last year so was already ideal for having a big 125gal tank placed on it :) .
Pretty much all the other rooms in the house are unsuitable though, either due to lack of space or not waterproof floors.

But our house has a basement so that would be the safest place to keep the 105 I think, its got a concrete floor.

Do you think its safe to keep my 105 in my room in the top floor of our house?

Mine is in my room, but certainly when the weight is an issue, you want to make sure its on a floor that can support it.

The basement would probably be the safest place to have it, i don't know how practical it is for you (for me, the kitchen is very practical as the sink is very near the tank so doing water changes is easy) though to have it there.
I don't know much on wether the top floor in your house will be able to take the weight of the tank when full in your house, i suppose it depends on how sturdy the floorboards are, but personally i would not do it as i know that when i first moved my 125gal tank in we needed 3 people just to get it safely through the front door and into the kitchen and that was when it was empty  .

I have a 30 and two 10's in my room, a 30 in the foyer and a 55 in my fiancee's room. No basement so the only limitation for me is physical space and complaints about too many tanks. :p

If the tank is properly set on the joists, you should be okay.

Yeah to move it would be a big hastle, but I really don't want my tank to go crashing into my family room :S

PS; Its been in my room for over a month now, but I read this really doesn't mean i'll ever be out of the woods.

I have a 75gal, a 29 gal, and 2 10gal in the living room of my second floor apartment. No problems so far.

I have a 55g tank on the floor... looks so ugly.. tanks on the floor = not cool

Unless They're MENT for the floor.

There's this place called fish city, where they have all these design tanks....

One's a coffee table, about 40 gallons, that has a glass top. Filter. Ect. the only problem is lighting.

Well yea... coffee table tanks are interesting.. but standard 55g tanks on the floor aren't cool.. I hate it so much.. cant wait to get rid of the tank!

I have my 55 in the living room, the 10 on the bar between the LR and kitchen, a 29 in the kitchen, and a 5 on my computer desk in my room. Unfortunately there isn't any more room in the house for another one, until we move to a much bigger house w/concrete floors.

12 in the basement fishroom, 3 running around the corner from the fishroom, & a 65 upstairs in the living room. The tanks are in my profile.

i have a 55 gal in the livingroom and a 29 gal in the office and a small "hospital" tank thats on the bar area between the kitchen and dining area. i live on the 9th floor and the only real issues i have are earthquakes :-( all have been good so far (knocks on wood)

I have my 15 gal tank standing on my old Computer stand in our main living area in our flat between all the hitech and expensive computer setups.Best of all its on the 4rd floor of a very big building.Luckely the tank is small and of it do breakes only about 2 floors down should get a little shower. ( Please dont let this ever happen. )

My biggest fear is the rocks inside my tank. They are secure but im paranode that a fish will swim under it shift some sand and the balance will go down and the rocks will tumble and break the glass. ( Also hope this never happen )
