Are internet sites reliable? Is the lfs the best place? What about bit fish shops like Swallow Aquatics or Seapets?

Any info would be grate!

What internet sites are you referring to? Lots of us on here use internet sites, so we can let you know if they are tried and tested or not.
As for LFS yes definitely, you can observe the fish, you will generally pay less (especially as no postage costs involved) however the fish may be older than if you buy from a breeder, so if you're planning to breed them yourself, you're better to use an online breeder.

I imported a few of mine from Malaysia as my LFS had poor quality stock and i was looking to breed.
They arrived safely and healthy and i'd do it again because it only cost $30 altogether, which isn't much more than you'd pay in the UK.

I will find the website i used for you, if you are interested.

I am :D

Remember you need a licence to import otherwise you could have your fish taken and you loose your money too. I'm getting a licence soon so i can import and i was thinking of taking orders from people for fish they want from malaysia. But i'll let you know if and when it happens

Try these i have used all of them with good results

Plus you could try Amerce on here

If you are in the UK and imported you MUST have an import license or get someone who does to recieve them. Its illegal not to

I learnt all about transhipping last night :D

Personally, I'm just too paranoid to ever order something living, other than plants, online. From what I've read here and other sites, alot of people don't have any problems though, so it's up to you if you want to order fish online. Just make sure wherever you're ordering from is reputable.

I get my bettas from the petstores here.
All of my current bettas have been purchased from Petsmart. I like looking at the fish I'm buying in person. That way I can see if they're sick.

Thanks alot for the quick replies! They were very helpful!!! I am hoping to visit two aquatic specialist shops (Seapets and Swallow Aquatics) near me next weekend, so if i have no luck there i may think about ordering online. Will keep everyone posted. Thanks again

I do live near/in colchester! I have visited swallow aquatics serveral times in the past but unfortunatly i didn't go to look at the fish at the time, but will defintatly let you know what it's like. I have also visited Seapets quite a few times and the staff in there seem to know what they are talking about in the way of pond fish keeping, hopefully they will about tropical fish keeping too! I will post my thoughts about the stores when i have been to visit. Do you live near Colchester too then?

Thank you! No not really close but I'm always willing to travel to reputable stores for unusual fish and I always notice Seapets come up a lot in the search engines when I search for equipment, I saw the photo of their warehouse and it looks huge and need a good excuse to go there sometime :D

Sorry but after my experience with Swallow Aquatics i would never touch them with a barge pole. I'm also not the only one to say how their fish infected and killed many of my others, let alon them selling me a fish that died on the way home then not refunding or swapping coz they didn't have a water sample...hello he's in it! Grrrrrrr ok venting over
