Dear All,

I have recently had to combat an outbreak of blue-green and did a total black out and thought it would be a good opportunity to re-scape the tank.

However not very happy with the plant collections at the LFS.

Where do you get yours?

Can you recommend a good on-line supplier?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,

Birstall Garden Centre near Leicester do mail order plants which they import from Tropica. Post free for orders over £30.

I haven't planted my tank yet but will be using my LFS who import from Singapore. They don't do MO

No problem Chris.

Tropica plants are flawless IME. Richard (Aqua Essentials) keeps them hydroponically too, so they are actually growing in their holding tanks, not dying like many other outlets that stock Tropica.

Greenline are very reasonably priced and Andy Green is very helpful. For bread and butter stems and some rarer plants then I'd give them a go. I recommend phoning him if you place an order, and pass on my regards.

When you say, 'bread and butter stems' what exactly do you mean? I'm just wondering because I was thinking of placing an order with them and I was wondering if the 18" premium tropical collection would be any good - i.e. good heights and grown to maturity (I want a good instant spread and height structure in the tank)?
Any help would be appreciated - many thanks.

I think he means the common plants, Greenline are good for filling a new tank with lots of fast growing plants, but if you what that specimen plant to fill are certain space/role in the tank you're better going with tropica plants, they also have some of the less common species.

The collections are very good value from greenline and the plants tend to arrive fairly well grown and healthy, although probably not 100% full size, say perhaps 60-70%.

I've used greenline twice recently and they are very good, id say there are some interesting plants to be found on there :)

Nice to hear from you again Chris.
I had an out break of blue-green in my nano. The cause was low NO3, so keep that NO3 up!
I also back up aquaessentials and it's range of tropica plants.

Thanks Guys!

For all your help, as usual most useful and great to hear from some familiar names!

I am trying out a rocky 'scape' and ditching the drift wood, pleased so far with the rocks... ..but needs plants.

I may do a photo journal if I get time.
