Where Can I Buy Rocks Etc?

where can i buy rocks, slates etc for a malawi cichlid tank that are reasonably priced??

You should probably check around various fish stores comparing prices. Or buy rock online.

fish/aquarium stores way overprice their rocks !! try your local garden centre. i got big peices of slate from mine for 4 quid each !!

My local fish store has slate from the garden centre (which is conveniently next door) in their malawi tanks, but sell their own rocks that are half the size and double the price !!

Also try local landscaping companies.

Just avoid any rocks with metal deposits and rust.

I got all my rouch looking rocks from outside. Scrubed them clean, although I should have boiled them they have worked just fine and look great I think.

I agree, i just set up a small tank with loads of rocks, got them all from outside, scrubbed, boiled, and all done.

I must have saved atleast $100 or more in rocks by getting them from outside. Although I love the look of lava rock and all the other types of white rouch looking rocks you find at the store, they are just WAAY to expensive.

my fish shop sells a box of lava rock for £35 its enough to cover probably a 2 foot tank

agree with getting it form a garden center/landscaping company.

so much cheaper i got mine for about £4 a rock and dont even want to know much it would of cost from the lfs (which is inside the garden centre i got the big rock from)

I got half of mine from Wickes (DIY store in UK) and the other half from my LFS.

I've also tried some from outside that I've picked up from various problems. Nothing wrong with them.
