I have a tank, with 5 neon tetras, 2 sword tails, 4 guppies, 2 dalmation mollies and 2 bleeding heart tetras and about 3 snails which came in with the plants. This morning i noticed a jelly like substance with lots of (what look like eggs, about 30 in total) amongst the gravel.... which would these belong to?

The snails I'm afraid, they're the only ones that lay them in a jelly-like substance. The swordtails, guppies and mollies give birth to live young and the neons (which hardly ever breed in a community tank) and bleeding hearts too, I think, scatter theirs.

Thanks for the reply, but the snails are very small and young (i think).... they were unnoticable when i bought the plants 2/3 weeks ago. I was hoping they where from the fish

sorry, didnt know how to edit the previous post.

I thought snails laid their eggs above the water level?
