ok so i have two platy's.. one male, one female... anyway, when i fed my fish last night i noticed that the female had balloned up, she was massive and when i say massive, i literually mean huge!! i knew she was pregnant and when my partner saw her, he instantly said 'she's pregnant, no doubt about it'
i was so excited (never had fry before!) that i watched her for most of the evening and night before i went to bed... she looked very happy, but keep to the bottom of the tank, but all was well when i went to bed...
so i woke this morning and planned to get a breeding trap today after work, but i looked in the tank and..... well she wasn't fat anymore!! great, fry i thought! i looked around the tank for ages (i was looking for so long that i was very late for work!) and no fry! i looked everywhere.. no fry!
whats going on?! was she actually pregnant to start with or did i dream it?! if she wasnt pregnant, then why was she so round and fat? her belly was dark on the whole underside of it, if you looked at her from the back, she was very larger and boxy....
could the fry have been eaten??
please someone help me and explain what could of happened? im new to this
thanks
Laura
