How do YOU take out the water? I suck it out. HAHAHA my tank is so small! Plus I suck out un eaten food too. :kana: I feel like an idiot now. :X

 sucking the water out made me ill, so i used a syphon and have now moved onto the Python No Spill system. No water in the mouth. No feelin sik :D

you can use a syphon without sucking water through initially by submerging the whole tube in the water and letting it fill up completely, then take the thin end out with your thumb over the end - hey presto, roberts your fathers brother!!

I use my neighbors when I siphon mine. You just have to shake it a few times in the water and it gets going. Does a pretty nice job. I just hate carrying buckets of water around. Id buy a Python but those things are so freaking expensive.

Hmmmmmm!

Just wondered if any1 has heard of a syphon that only removes the dirt, not the water!?!
My husband said he used 2 have 1 with his old tank. I've never heard of this. Any1 else? (either that or i'm really daft & missing out on something)
:*) :*)

The only way I could see removing the dirt and not the water is too have a syphon that transfers the dirt to another tube because of the weight of it and the water goes into a return tube into the tank. I've never heard of such a thing though.

I used to have one that used an air pump and had a mesh bag on, the air bubles forced water up the tube and got all the debrie in the bag, with the water returning to the tank. Very weak suction though so I threw it out, syphoning is much stronger.

you can get an air driven vacuum, water is drawn up by air bubbles and run through a net bag back into tank. Ideal for plec poo!!!

lol pipped at the post with my reply! agree not strongest suction in the world but ok for quick tidy up of uneaten food, plec mess and surface detrietus

Big Al's online has this one Battery operated filter, and I know Drs. Foster and Smith has one as well, but I wasn't able to find it on the website. I am seriously considering getting one now that Big Al's has one. It would just help clean up the gunk if you don't have time for a full water change
