just wanted to know the full process of molly birth...not the baloon molly...but the simple molly.

how long does it take?

where does she usually do it?

when? night? morning?

breeder nets safe?

anyhow thanks in advance!

A breeding net is a good idea if you wany to keep the fry. The rest is all guesses as they can start to birth any time of day or night. They generally just swim around and squeeze them out. The fry can swim within a few seconds after birth but settle on the bottom and get their bearings for a couple of minutes first. If you have lots of plant cover they will have a chance of being dropped in the plants and some hope of survival. How long it takes, time between birthings, number of fry and health of fry varies from fish to fish. My two Swordie females are so different it seems like they are different species. Doris is much larger and births every 35 days or so, she takes about six to eight hours to get them out and has 100 or more at a time. Fiskis gives birth every 50-60 days has about 20-25 fry and is done in a few hours. Doris seems to like to give birth during the day and Fiskis at night. I try to wait till they start birthing and then put them in the breeder so they do not get too stressed.HTH :D

The time of birth can really vary... some livebearers have them within an hour, some hold their fry for a while. Usually all of my livebearers give birth at nighttime. Breeder nets are optional, usually mollies are a bit big for them and get stressed out.
