hey, so my first pregnant platy :hyper: i know its nothing to experienced people like you guys but ive been trying to get platy fry for aaages and now shes pregers :D wrong female i wanted but still
so, i havent really noticed her recently, shes always looked fat (she eats A LOT) but now shes deffinatly pregers, she looks ready to explode. she hasnt squared off yet- her front has dropped but not her back end? but shes hiding all the time and the other platy female is chasing her alot?
as i said shes always looked fat so i dont know how long shes been pregant, so any ideas on when she will drop will be helpfull :)
i have a small tank with guppy fry in it but can move them and put her in it, just wondering when to move her?

thanks :)

It's really hard to say without a picture. The most signs I've read about is squareing off and the birthing tube becoming noticable. I wouldnt be able to tell you exactly when since I am not an expert on platys, I'm actually breeding guppies but I can tell you what ever I know and have read from the other fourms :)

I wouldnt worry about moving her until her back end drops down a bit more. You will probably notice it once in a while how it gets lower depending on how closely you pay attention to them every day. For the chasing you might want to add extra plants or other things to help the mama hide from the other female. Although I could have sworn it was usually the males that chase the females.. but that could be a guppy only thing.

hey, thanks for the reply
i heard it was the males that chase them too, maybe my girls just being grumpy
well everything just seems to be the usual again, the platy had gotten a bit thiner back to her normal size and swimming around again.
so either shes dropped the fry or wasnt ever pregnant ?
either way shes still as fat as ever, she always looks like shes 3 weeks pregnant and dark gravid patch? ive tried hardly feeding her anything but it doesnt seem to make a difference? shes benn like this for months so she surely cant be pregant?

Sometimes fish will look bigger after eating, and I mean MUCH bigger. My guppies double in size after eating their bloodworms. For the gravid patch lots of fish has false gravid patches.. my guppies always have complete dark gravid patches so I can never count of that to help figure out when their going to give birth..... talk about a pain in the butt!

But if your platy has been like that for months then she is probably just a big platy :) Fish are just like people, all in different shapes and sizes. If you look close enough that is :)
