Hi there,

my female egyptian mouthbrooder let her fry out of her mouth for the first time today ( :D :D ). She and her 12 fry are in a seperate and quite large breeding net (don't worry, my female is only just over 1"), I had actually just fully set up a 17L tank for them, but I guess I will move the fry there later.

So anyway, when should I seperate her? Right now I've made sure she is well fed, and have another tank for her to rest before going back to the others.

Thanks

Seb

You can can move her back with the others any time, now that she's spit.

perhaps a decent feed would do no harm before you do though, just to strengthen her up a little.

she may not have eaten for weeks and may be a tad weak to deal with her re-introduction to the main tank.

Well she doesnt seem to be sheparding them or anything, so I guess I could take her away, I just feel bad, but i guess they do not have the same kind of bond as my apistos do with thier fry -_-

Just thought I'd share a pic of my female brooding and one of the fry with her

No Seb, most mouthbrooders won't look after them once they spit, and males will like as not try to eat them. The fry should already be ready for fry foods.

It's best not to dignify those types of posts with a comment, that way they'll get bored and leave.

thanks for the positive comments

for the other  ...

Anyway, I havn't moved her just yet, as I felt a bit bad, the female is not actually a bad mum. But I will tonight, just preparing the tank for some cory fry too.
