i bought a new female today she already has her verticle bars and is good and fat. i have turned the temp upto 28 in tank and put my male into it. i have put her in a jar in the tank. he is making a nest and shimmying for her. when should i release her? how do you know? i feed my fish daily with live blood worm and mosquito larvae or frozen blood worm or frozen daph is it best just leave her in ther a couple of days an let tensions rise abit and feed her the best. thats what im thinking rite or wrong?

i actually dont no but i would also like to know that.

i would give the female a few weeks to settle before considering breeding, 1. she may have an under lying illness that is not visable now, 2. you have no idea what she has been fed. give her 2-3 weeks then condition her yourself to be sure.

I am in the process of breeding currently, both have been conditioned for a week and a half now, the female is in the chimney showing bars etc, male is nice and fat 2 nests showing off, but as soon as i release her he chases her until she hides, i'm giving them a few days to get to know each other before atempting another release.

Do you have the space to seperate all the fry?

yes i have plenty of space i have stacker boxes with lengths of 4" drilled tube to separate each male with a heater and water pump for circulation. its my own design but will allow me to change water from all vessels at once. and better water stabillity being a larger volume. will get pics up wen in use.

If you got her from a good breeder, chances are she is already conditioned. Good breeders usually feed high quality food and the fish is ready to go so to speak. Id personally waita week tho if you just got her...give her a chance to settle and condition a bit more.
my 2 cents.
cheers
