I was just at the lfs (to pick up some upside down cats!!!!) and of course, was also checking out all of the fish.

There is one particular tank that has 3 big plecs (about 8 inches each) and it got me to thinking about my little plec who will eventually get that big and then some.

Right now he looks perfectly fine with his other tank mates as he's only 2-3 inches long. BUT someday, he'll be big like those and will look ridiculous in a tank full of small fish -- plus he'll need more than a 55 gallon tank.

I know I'm thinking way ahead, but just curious, what size tank will I need when he's full grown? And what kind of large tank mates would go well with him? And lastly, how long does it take for a 3 inch common plec to reach 8-10 inches?

but you know you are thinking WAY ahead, right? but 55g seems perfect. a few chichlids would go great with your pleco in a 55g tank

I thought a 55 gallon would be good enough.
Certainly it is for now. But there are 9 congo tetras, 2 kribs and 3 upside down cats in there, too. So once the plec is big, it may be a bit crowded, no?
