Hi all,
I recently posted regarding my redcap fancy goldfish, and the rapid onset of finrot it was experiencing.
The fish was moved to a new tank with excellent aeration and filtration, and showed signs of recovery yesterday. However, today is a whole different story. For the last 8 hours the fish has laid on its side at the top of the water, being moved by the current mostly.
His fins are all torn apart, and although he trys hard to swim down, he has no control over buoyancy and is immediately pushed back to the surface. He is breathing hard and rarely moves his fins except to try and swim, in which he fails.
The fish is being treated with Waterlife Myxazin, it is the second day of treatment (5 day course).
My question is this: given that the fish is stuck at the surface and can no longer control buoyancy, when is it too late for a recovery to happen? I have anesthetic prepared to euthanise him should I need to, and I am prepared to do so if it will stop him suffering.
However, I do not wish to waste a life if there is chance of recovery.
All advice will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Matt
