Hi all,

I'm just curious about what times people have their tank lights turn on and when they turn them off.

I currently have mine automatically turning on at 0800 in the morning and then off at 1830 in the evening. I sometimes end up turning the lights on again manually after when my daughter has gone to bed and I can play around with the tank and watch without any interruptions.

Please post what times you have on your set-ups. Thanks.

Same here, The main lights go on about 10, stay on until about 9pm, but I also have blue led moonlihgts that come on early morning (6am until just after the main lights) then back on just before the main lights go out until about midnight.

I can see the nocturnal ones doing their thing then

I have mine on from 9 in the morning to 8 in the night..

Gradually turn on from 3pm to 5-30pm then full lights for 4 hours then gradually turn off from 9-30pm to 12am

10AM til 10PM, I'm at work during the day and only really get to see the fish from about 5PM so at least when the timer goes off at 10 I've have a good few hours to watch them :)

12 noon til 10.30pm
same reason as Kev_A, so i can still see fish when i get home from work!

Usually for a 12 hour stint no more than that
10am - 10 pm mostly
less than 10 hrs can cause brown algae i think and more than 12 hrs gives ya more of the green stuff.....

Still need to get timers for my planted shrimp tank and sort out CO2, so right now they are on from when I wake up (between 7:30AM and 2PM) till when I go to bed (usually between 10:30PM and 12PM). Staying like that until I go out and get cheap timers and my solenoid arrives).

My main tank's two 18W T8 tubes are on from 11AM till 10PM, and the 36W compact T5 in the corner of it (usually mostly shaded by the floating plants and the Echinodorus) goes on/off the same time as the shrimp tank.

brown algae is caused by silicates and ammonia

green algae is generally too much light

Isn't that what i said about too much light

but that article doesnt say too much light, it says inadequate light. and btw nitrates do not cause algae! so that article is wrong again :p

Can you actually read what i wrote?

If you can did you understand it?

I said less than 10 hrs can cause brown algae I THINK! not that it will

then

More than 12 can cause the green stuff!

And as for the article isn't it for advice like this forum so what makes you right and that wrong?
