When do I know when I need to take out my girls from being together? One of the girls has two splits in her tail that she didn't have before. And I've seen one of the girls nipping at the other two. But does that mean I need to take them out or do I wait for a little while longer. They've been in together for less than 24 hours now.

Thanks.

It's hard to say, what type are they(CT,VT,PK,HM etc.) when you got them where they in seperate tanks or containers or were they together. If they were together they should already have a pecking order in place, if they were seperate they should establish one as long as you have at least 3 in there, if they're CT's they are nastier then other females and could be more aggressive towards each other, since its been less than 24 hours I'd just leave them in there together but keep a close watch. Hope this helped

The one that has her tail split is long tailed VT for sure. The other two I believe are PK, but they COULD be VT. I don't know for sure with them. They were seperate when I got them. I actually got them all at different times and was keeping two of them (the VT and one of the possible PKs) in seperate containers until I bought the other possible PK yesterday. And I decided I'd like to have them all together. But if it doesn't work out, I'm willing to seperate them.

And yes, the tank is established. It has been up and running for almost a year and a half with NO deaths.

general consensus is it takes about a week to form the hierarchy, you should definately expect split tail and nipped fins. also it's suggested keeping no fewer than four females together.
