who started the tropical fish forums  and who pays for the hosting of all the data

The forum was started in January 2002 by a chap called William. He hosted and paid for the forum, from his own pocket, until the summer of 2012, when he sold to a media company called Keebali. They now own and fund the site.

So overall, The site has no real owner rather than the company called Keebali?

They own lots of wed companies/forums. They have a page showing things they own, here isn't on the list. I assume because this place must be too inconsequential to make their list. They own The Reef tank site http/www.thereeftank.com/ and a UK reptile site http/www.reptileforums.co.uk/
 
Since I routinely block all cookies and trackers as well as ads on forums I visit regularly, I do not care what they do here as long as it doesn't affect the integrity of the site. Besides, since they bought the place, I think it has become a better site in many respects.
