When A Landlords Contract Says...

Fish are pets, so probably. Call thier office, pretend to be someone interested in moving there, and ask.

Typically not really. They just don't want anything that could cause depreciation to their property, EG dogs and cats etc. But, with these things, it's always best to speak to your landlord and ask, because it's easier to ask a question than ignore it, do it anyway, and end up in big trouble, paying expensive lawyers.

we asked ours and they said "HAHAHAHAHA most people keep cats and dogs without telling us let alone fish! go for it"

what size tank Swart Skaap? what plans do you have for the tank?

Your lucky then! but i guess better safe than sorry!

its a 250L, 55ukg, 66usg.

A nicely planted community tank i hope!!!

i plan to do just that!

Although you will have to be patient as i am currently unemployed and the money is a priority, having just moved to Denmark an all!

She is a beauty. ill have to show you some pics once it arrives on the w/e as there are no real pics that do it justice on the web!

Its an Akvastabil Effect-Line tank, in black!

 I never asked if I could keep fish. I kept rats for a couple of years and they never complained, they already knew about my cats thankfully, before I moved in so I figured fish couldn't possibly upset them...unless the 100g burst and flooded the place. All the Gods forbid that ever happens!! -_-
Hugs,
P.

I've rented plenty a property - and I'm afraid to say it most certainly includes fish. Stick insects the lot - you name it. Even an ant farm :S

Get permission first - it's never been a big deal to have that clause put in the contract.

But water is always a liability and some landlords won't allow fish tanks etc.

It's definitely not worth the stress (to try and hide the tank) if the landlord or agent needs to make a house call - for those unexpected inspections or a problem that needs sorting.

When I recently moved I asked that question too. Around here, "pets" seem to refer to cats and dogs mostly. The apartment complex I moved into doesn't consider fish to be pets. They are more worried about animals that bark and make noises that will disturb the other tenants. :/

It's never been a problem for me. I have asked before as well and they've not been bothered about fish.

My apartment allows pets, that's a big reason why I moved in. Dogs can be up to 35lbs and you can have either 1 dog or 2 cats. Fish and birds are unlimited provided it doesn't make too much noise. The tenants in my building actually like my canary, especially in Winter, when nothing else sings, Wesley, the canary, opens his big mouth.
