2 x Clown Loaches
1 x Golden Gourami
1 x Neon Blue Drawf Gourami
1 x Flame Dwarf Gourami
1 x Green Severum Cichlid
1 x Blood Parrot Cichlid
1 x Blue Kenyi Cichlid
1 x Ice Blue Zebra Cichlid
2 x Zebra Danios
1 x Common Pleco
1 x Silver Veil Tail Angelfish
1 Marble Koi Angelfish

So what are everyones thoughts?

should you really be keeping malawi cichlids in with fish like dwarf gouramis and clown loaches that want totally different water parameters?

the common pleco will outgrow the tank

the zebra danios should be in a school

you may get aggression between the gouramis

55 gal fully planted lots of hiding spaces

2 x Clown Loaches - get too big for the tank, need to be in bigger groups, but v slow growing so might be fine for a bit depending how big they are, not a long term home for them though
1 x Golden Gourami - 4"
1 x Neon Blue Drawf Gourami - 2"
1 x Flame Dwarf Gourami - 2"
1 x Green Severum Cichlid - I'd be worried about agression from this fish 6"
1 x Blood Parrot Cichlid - 8"
1 x Blue Kenyi Cichlid - African, requires different water parameters to the rest
1 x Ice Blue Zebra Cichlid - As above
2 x Zebra Danios - need to be in a group of 6, wouldn't put them with a sev or parrot
1 x Common Pleco - gets too big for the tank
1 x Silver Veil Tail Angelfish - 5"
1 Marble Koi Angelfish - 5"

so taking out those from above that aren't suitable you've got 32"ish of fish, so there's room for more in there but you need to be more careful with the selection. That tank would be massivley overstocked and end in disaster. If you already ahve these fish you need to re-home some of them asap.

:/

Lose the Africans or lose the others and the plants and add some rocks instead.

As mentioned African lake Cichlids have totally different requirements to conventional tropicals and should only be kept with other African Cichlids from the same lake, yours are also vegetarians which will view a planted tank as an eat as much as you like buffet.

I agree it's got some issues (but who am I to judge with my strange stocking in my tank...) but the 2 clown loaches should be in a bigger group and will outgrow the tank (WHY DID GOD MAKE THOSE CUTIES TO GROW SO LARGE... :p )

can someone tell me how big the clowns grow becuase as I read places like here http://www.elmersaquarium.com/10loach_clown.htm the avg size is about 7" even our own site indez says 12" generaly smaller. I know the common will be to big and will need to be moved.

When you say the african need "totally different water parameters" what would those be?

the severum and the parrot i wouldn't really have an issue rehoming, but I wonder about their size since they are both over 3 years old the the severum is like 5" and the parrot is like 3"

well regardless of what the avergae size is you need to allow room for the largest they can get to. if you've had them 5 years and they start to outgrow the tank and you can't get a bigger one, are you really gonna be alrigth with giving them away? you need to allow room for all eventuality.

the african's require a much higher ph, due to they're agression and nature they do best kept with other africans, also the tank design is quite different.

sev's i took a bit of a guess at the size, they're something around that, do your own research though to back this all up. you should never just take the word of 1 person on a website. maybe they're growth has been stunted from being in too small and cramped conditions, my parrots a year old and she's about 6", at oevr 3 years old yours should be a lot bigger than that, you've probably already done irreversible damage which will shorten her life :/

Ok you seemed a bit on the attacking side so let me explain some things to you

1. the severum and the parrot were GIVEN to me in a 20 gal tank where the old owner had them for over 3 years. I understand that they get much bigger but I was ASKING if maybe something could have happened like drawfing there size.

As far as getting info from 1 person on the web I didn't in fact in that post I put a link and then said that even this site says 12" but usualy much smaller

Thanks for the info on the africans I had no idea, I know about the difference in tank set up as far as rocks vs plants but I have seen many ppl say that is mearly becuase the fish tend to dig up the plants.

Part of the problem with Rift Valley cichlids is their water/setup requirements, i.e. they need hard alkaline water, and many require rocks to hide in/for territory, but another important factor is their high level of territorial aggression. Fish that live in the same lake have evolved to understand the signals from a cichlid that is seriously pissed off, but fish even from another African lake won't have this ability, which is why it is only recommended that you keep Malawis with Malawis and Tanganyikans with Tanganyikans.

so If I was was to move the 2 africian cichlids to another tank how much alkaline should the water be? as far as the rocks and terrtory that part is basicly fine now since they have just taking over different parts of the slate

To be honest, it looks like a bunch of fish that were randomly chosen. There are fish from just about every continent and a really wide variety of water requirements. There doesn't appear to have been much thought or research put into it. There are a lot of issues here, but others have covered them. Your problems can be sorted out and we have all learned from mistakes. Sorry, but you asked.

I mean for the most part you are right. Most of these fish were given to me or I resured from someone else. Just about the only ones i intenened on getting were the clowns and the common( if thats not ture I thought I was getting a BN). I seem to have met a lot of ppl who were abusing their fish and my 55 gal is kinda a safe house.

I had a bala in here until last weekend. I saved it from a 2' tank and got her into a 8' tank with 6 friends. I don't have a ton of emotional attachment to my fish becuase most of them are rescures............. but thanks for the advice
