Ok, so 8th grade my science teacher started breeding crowntail bettas, he had a good amount.. 40 at the least enough to pack a 10 gallon! I tried doing it along with him with my own bettas well.. I was to stupid as a kid lets leave it at that :)

But now that I have a betta again (spear) I was thinking if the guppy breeding didnt work out (for some reason i dont do well with easy fish but do amazing with harder to take care of fish go figures!) I might try breeding bettas again. But I have a LOT of questions about it.

1.Is it true that your male will only make a bubble nest when hes happy?
2.Do I need a seperate tannk for the betta fry if they were to survive? Or could they stay with the father?
3. What would you feed the fry?
4.At what age do you have to remove them from eachother?
5.What do you do with them all??!?

(For thoes who say you sell them my lfs wont tank them or buy them from random people so I have questions for you too!)
1.How big do people normally sell them?
2.What is the process of selling them? (paying wise and shipping wise, how does the process work)

Sorry for so many questions; I'm just a curious girl wanting to learn :)

There is so much to know and learn, im in the process of beginning to breed.
Here's a brief explanation on a site.
http://www.bettasplendens.co.uk/breedingbettas.php

1 think that is a must, you must have the time and space for the fry. Remember every male has to be separated eventually.

That was a very helpful site thank you! But I am still puzzled as to what you do with all of them 0_0 I mean my teacher had a 10 gallon filled.. there was no way he could have enough tanks to keep each male seperate.. Or are you able to keep them together until they hit a right age to mate with a female?

When males start to show aggression towards each other they must be separated. This is at a young age still, so no, males can not be kept with females.
People tend to 'jar' there betters. Mine are going into a 50Litre under the bed clear storage box that is divided off using netting. and the females are going into a 80 litre tank. Every one has there own different way of doing it. This, fingers crossed, is mine.
Ill be selling mine, and also shipping them so I can send them through out the UK (thats my plan anyway  )

So then how do you plan to ship them? I dont even know how people do that. I have lots of betta tank kits.. but their the really small ones I didnt like using but I guess if there still super small it would be to small for them.. hmm. ALso how do you sell them online? I mean.. how do they pay you?

Ahh I'm to curious for my own good but I cant help it! XD

Have a look at that site link I showed you, there is a shipping step by step page on there.
Ebay is a good way to sell them, or even setting up your own website. Payment through paypal is the safest way.

Oh sorry I didnt see that part of the site, that explains a lot. I dont exactly trust paypal.. someone was able to hack into my mothers account and steal lots of money :\ and the only thing she used it on was ebay and that was mostly because of me when I was little going after pokemon cards!

So I'm a bit nervous about using paypal especally since I'm still in high school not allowed to have a job till after graduation (this summer) cant risk something like that happening.

Thats a shame.
Im sure there will be other ways and means of payment, but I only used paypal.
Hope I helped, im sure others will have other opinions that will help you :)

1.Is it true that your male will only make a bubble nest when hes happy? not exactly some males will never nest, some nest after they have bred and have eggs then realise theres nowhere to put them
2.Do I need a seperate tannk for the betta fry if they were to survive? Or could they stay with the father?Dad has to be removed once the fry are free swimming, sometimes before as they start eating them
3. What would you feed the fry? Baby Brine Shrimp to start then gradually get them onto solid foods
4.At what age do you have to remove them from eachother? As soon as the males start showing aggression, this varies between spawns, i've heard 1 case where they had to seperate at 4 weeks
5.What do you do with them all??!? Sell them mostly, some breeders will keep a few to improve the line

(For thoes who say you sell them my lfs wont tank them or buy them from random people so I have questions for you too!)
1.How big do people normally sell them?Males can normally be sold younger as you can tell they are males not late bloomers appearing female
2.What is the process of selling them? (paying wise and shipping wise, how does the process work)most use paypal/postal orders etc to pay, bag them up put them in an insulated box with a heat pack and post next day delivery before 1pm (usually dropping them off just before the post man collects)

Hope this helps :good:

Wow right down to the very last question, thank you! XD

A couple extra questions popped into my head after thinking about the answers a long while.. The site I was reading said that after 3 days the egg sack is gone but there still in the nest.. how do you feed them brine shrimp without destroying the nest?

Also I actually have a brine shrimp hatchery from back in the middle school days when i first attempted this. I can get them to hatch but when it comes to keeping them alive.. they only last two days.. What do people do about that if you have to keep feeding the fry that until their bigger?

you start feeding them once they are swimming around on there own usually at 3 days as you said, by this time they should have left the nest :good: plus no male to put them back in the nest again

Thats the only thing with brine shrimp they only last a few days  breeders usually have 2-3 hatcheries going so they have a constant supply

Oh so they actually leave the nest by then? I must have read the site wrong.. So you just squrt some of the brine shrimp in and they will eat it? Sounds pretty simple.. My teacher made it seem so hard because he had a different food source.

My lfs stopped selling the hatcheries.. so I'm only stuck with one. Good thing I dont actually plan to any time soon. Looks like if I did I'd have to do a lot of online shopping *gupls*
