Wires at the back looking quite hideous. I almost grabbed some ferociously overpriced background sheets from my fish shop but decided to try asking what menthods those on here use after reading some very negative opinions on the stuff.

what do you all do for this

I'm a cheap skate, so I use black bin bags and sellotape on mine!

Black paint out of your local DIY store.

Paint or nothing. Mostly I do nothing becuase in the reef the rocks cover most of it and in the FW the plants do. In my latest little 10 gallon I used blue stained glass paint which created a really satisfying look. It's hard to see in photos but I really like it.

I use scraps from the local fabric store, something dark and maybe with a simple pattern, usually they're under $2.

in all previous tanks i used a vinyl sheet and taped it on. For my recent on i decided to paint, its much easier and is uniform.

My 64L has a black aquarium background and I was intending to paint it black instead for a better finish.  The green plants look great against the black but sometimes the tank looks too dark.

I've recently set up a 35L on my kitchen worktop and I bought some frosted film to stick on the back.  The frosting helps to blur the cables and looks quite effective.  There are white kitchen tiles behind which help to reflect the light back and keep the tank looking nice and bright.  It's an Arc35 with a totally see though glass lid so a black background just wouldn't look right on this tank.  I'd like to try the frosting on my 64L but it has a heavy black plastic lid so I think the frosted effect would be wasted.
