Unsuitable tank mates situation aside, seeing as you ignore that anyway...
Are you able to post your test results for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph yet?
How often do you do waterchanges and gravel vacs? How much water do you change in one go?
Define 'warm' - what is the temperature on the thermometer?
It's really hard to say what's 'wrong' with the rainbowfish without knowing these things. 9/10 problems are caused by water quality, and us knowing water test results and your regime are the only way for us to have a clue whether your water is the problem or not.
If you can't/won't post these, the only advice I can give is to do a large water change and thorough gravel vac, and monitor the fish over the next few days.
