Just had a quick question and hopefully it can be answeredsoon so nothing happens to her. I noticed that she has something on the top middle part of her body. Looks like fungis maybe i dont know how to explain it, it's looks kinda like its peeling. I dont know if that helps anyone but does anyone know what it might be and what i can do to help her. Thanks

It probably is fungus. It's a sign that the water is not clean enough generally. How large is the tank? What else is in it? What kind of filtration is on it? When was the last time you did a water cahge?

There are all important questions to lok at the kind of environment the fish is in to see why this happened and perhaps prevent it in the future. For now, there are lots of medicines available online. Do a quick search and you should see some at any online pet store. Also, be aware that some of the medicines have dye in them and will stain silicone.

What other fish do you have in the tank and how many gallons is it? Do you have a separate tank you can isolate the molly in?

well i wasnt sure if she and the other fish i had were pregnant so the two were seperated for a short time. I only have two of them and i have them in a ten gallon. I do have a 55 gallon but i have goldfish in there. The filter i am not sure as to what kind it is, all i know is that i got it at walmart. It probably was because of the water. been working a lot but i will be on top of things with that now. I will go to the pet store and see what they have. I thought it was fungus as well but i wanted to ask and see what was said here.

One other thing i noticed is i only have two females and they are very close i mean they are with eachother all the time and she was in the tank when the other one had babies and neither of them ate the babies well i was considering getting a male or another female. WOuld that be best to do or not.

Actually do you think it could be ick?.. If so i got the drops and i did put a few drops in the tank but i didnt put much because i wasnt sure if it will kill the others. So what should be done.

I was wondering if i can put something to treat fungus as i do think it is that. Thought it might be ick at first. Also when i did it as i said the others were in the tank, will it harm them?.. I'm assuming it would at least be best to seperate her and treat her. If so how long should i keep her seperated?

It sounds like she has Columnaris (the symptoms you have described so far are classic of this disease), you need a med that treats both bacterial and fungal infections to treat the infection most successfully, it would also be worth testing your water for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates and increasing how often you do water changes on the tank too  .

I just treated iti for that and added some salt to the tank and with a slight temp change it actually is going away pretty fast.

the baby fish are doing well and the platys are as well. I had a male and he was harassing the females and today i go and look in the tank and he was dead. I have a feeling the females got sick of him and killed him lol.. Getting another one today but besides that all is pretty good.
