Yes, it is pretty common in new tanks brown algae. I had quite a bit of it, but the good thing is that it rubs off really easily. It should start to lower in a month or so, just keep giving it a scrub if you need too.

they will go away on there own, but it wont hurt to scrub of the brown stuff with your finger and thumb. You can also remove leaves if they are damaged at all this will promote new growth. Also Ottos love the Diatoms, so it won't hurt to pop a couple in you tank.

Ian will Ottos live peacefully with Barbs? I have a couple of green tigers and was thinking of adding some normal tigers as well, also I have a rainbow shark in there. Would hate to see the otto/s being harassed!

Also, I've done some deeper investigating into my lighting situation....

The dual housing is holding:

1 x T.F.H COLOURMAX F30T8 36 inch globe... (I googled this and got nothing)
and
1 x ReptileOne T8 UVB10.0 globe

Should I be replacing one or both of those globes?
