What's Wrong With My New Betta

I choose her at the store because she was so lively and she was such a pretty color. I'm pretty sure she's healthy but when I feed her she spits the food right out. She has an appetite because she is going up to the food but once it goes in her mouth is blows right back out. What's wrong with her?

my betta did the same thing. she's probably just not use to the food. after i fed him the same thing for a while, he ate it. i think he was on the young side and had trouble with the pellets.

When I came to check for any answer to my question I didn't even see it listed as recently posted so i'm just trying to bump it up to the top. It is important. I would hate for something bad to happen to my pretty betta.

Oh I did get a reply. Thanks! I guess I got a little scared there. I'm a worried new mommy.

Sometimes they suck it in and spit it out to help soften the food, especially if their young. Are you feeding her pellets or flakes? I'm sure she's fine some just take longer to adjust to new food then others. One of my bettas, didn't eat for 2 weeks after I bought him. Good luck with her

If it's pellets buy smaller pellets. All bettas I've had dont like these ( http/www.pets-warehouse.com/pic-a/AWA1648.jpg ) - they will only eat them if i mix it w/ their other food. The bettas I've had like these - http/www.petsmart.com/global/product_det...d&N=2023693

they tend to be smaller ... and throw in some worms and bryne shrimp so they can engage in a chase

Right now i'm feeding her flakes. Hopefully she'll get used to them and the pellets should be a great supplement to her diet. Thanks.

she may just not like the flakes either. i've heard of bettas not eating food because they didn't like it.
