Hi everyone. I'm worried about one of my platy's. Uhm, for about the past three days she's been hiding in one part of my ship ornament. She only comes out for food, and even then, she doesn't eat much, and doesn't stay out for long. Her chest looks very squared off, and she's younger than the rest of my other female platy's (she's smaller, not by a huge amount but still enough to make a noticable difference), I assumed that the males were pestering her, so she just went and hid to recooperate. So I put her into my isolation tank, so maybe that'd give her some alone time. But a little while ago I noticed that her scales on one side are slightly sticking out? They don't look enlarged though. I don't know whether she's just pregnant, and it looks odd because she's smaller than my other ones. I got some pictures of her.

Any ideas?

Pregnant squareing off about to have babys proably a week or two away

Just read about scales keep her isolated it maybe bloat, add some bacterial med to the isolation tank too

Yeah, I know about the squaring off thing, but today it looks even more like, cornered at the front, when they say squared off I didn't think they meant literally >.>

Okay. Thanks ^^

Anyone else?~

They do literally go square a few days before giving birth maybe give her a couple of days to see if she drops if shes young then the sticking out fins could just be a result of it been her first batch of fry and her body isnt used to the changes

I've just never seen a fish so square, my other platy's have given birth, and sure they were square-ish, but she looks like someone shoved a cube down her throat.

Ahhh, that could be it, I'm pretty sure this is her first batch. Okay, thanks for the help :)

If you have a bacterial med it shouldnt harm to ad some to the isolation tank just remember to increase aeration, this may help if she has dropsy or bloat however if it is either its hard to cure.

Hopefully she is just heavily pregnant

Okay. I'll see if we can go out and get some today. The isolation tank is rather aerated already, the filter output (I think that's the right thing) breaks the surface, and is like, 5 separeate water things, blah don't know how to explain.

Yeah, I'm hoping that too D:

I'm sad to report she passed away last night. RIP Cali </3
