i need help and suggestions for any reasons why my african butterfly fish stops eating....i do weakly 30 % water changes to my reasonably planted tank 40 gall tank....all my other fish including an angelfish, gourami etc are all fine taking food without hesitation...i feed my fish flakes and blood worms on sum occasions....what i dont know is that only bout a week ago, my ABF would be actively taking flakes and blood worms...days went buy and the ABF gradually lost interest in the food....i dont know what is happening...my ABF just stays at the top and swims away from me when its feeding time....Just a couple of days ago, he tried to take blood worms and to a surprise, my ABF just spits them out....now, he doesnt even try to eat... My ABF dont show any visible signs except that its goin a bit thin, just visibly seen...can anyone help...
P.S. like i said, my tiger barbs, gourami, and angelfish are all doing very well and are healthy...i do weekly 20-30% water changes to my reasonably planted tank...i even put an ammonia romever along with foam and carbon bag into my aquaclear 70...i dont knw whats wrong....any help would be appreciated...

Sorry once a fish stops eating not a good sign, had he gone thin before he stopped eating.

no....in the past, he always takes food buy the mouthful, it was all good, he was healthy and showed visible signs that he was growing... all of a sudden, he just stopped, no reason... i though that by next feeding he would eat again but he since then, he takes a bite, then spits it out again...presently, he doesnt even take notice of the food....
My angelfish was like this one time...the angelfish wouldnt eat anything for several days, no reason at all since all the other fish in the tank were healthy.... and then miraculously, my angelfish started to eat again and stayed healthy eversince.....I just hope that my ABF can soon eat again just like my angelfish...
P.S. is there anything i can do to help my ABF...or should i just keep the water clean and healthy and hope for the best?????

I'd try a change in diet. Mine stopped eating a couple of times, and I brought him back on with a change of flake and some earthworms, that I held in front of him.

I would go with fella advice and try a more varied diet to see if that fetches his appetite back, good luck.

just to let you know, my afb didnt make it and died today...it didnt take any food i offered it and today was its last...i just want to know why it died, and if there was an infection that killed it, can the infection transfer to other fish....

Sorry bless him, R.I.P. Once a fish stops eating a sign of a desease, but hard to say which one with no symtoms, all you can do is water changes, and always remove a sick fish from the tank so the other fish can't peck at the body of it as thats how desease can transfer.

Sorry about your loss :( .
Although i'm no expert on these fish, i know they are predatory fish and do best on a varied diet, if you just it bloodworms and flakes its not going to get all the nutrition it needs to thrive;

They can also be fussy about their water conditions, what was the ph in the tank?

the ph in my tank always stays slightly acidic around 6.8 and at times may even reach a nuetral reading....i never had a problem wiht my abf for about 6-8 weeks....i knw its a carniverous fish, thats why i feed him mainly on frozen bloodworms with the occasional flakes....i was hoping to feed him live crickets but i didnt get the chance to feed it since i was waiting for it to grow a bit larger.....oh welll :(
P.S. i found him dead in the morning and took him out befor other fish could take a bite at it, i just hope the disease is long gone now.
I might think the death has something to do with the frozen blood worms i gave it since i usually feed him with another brand but this time i fed him with a different brand but i dnt really know the cause since all my other fish are fine after eating the same thing...
