Hi all, I am in my second week of my new planted 180 liter tank with all of the old mature media from my old 48 liter tank, Also i have all of the old fish from my old 48 liter tank + 4 new Zebra danio's. This is what reading i have got today

AMMONIA = 0PPM
NITRITE = 0.50ppm
NITRATE = 20ppm

What does these reading say to you, Would this nitrite spike be due to the transfer of the media? or would it be to do with the 4 extra fish, The fish i currently have are 3 x neon tetra's, 6 x black neon tetra's, 6 x Zebra danio's, 3 x peppered cory's, 1 x cherry barb.

thanks

It could be the results of a slight mini-cycle caused by the move and a few extra fish. In moving the media over, you still aren't moving 100% of the bacteria as there would also be some present on plants, decorations, substrate, etc., basically, any where there is water flow to pass food (ammonia and nitrite) by them. Just keep a check on it. Since you have no ammonia, it should clear up in another day or so.
