Whats The Worst Fish Store You Have Been To, Tell Why

Well there is this on store which name shall not be spoken had a 10g tank with about 20 common plecos and about 15 ADF's and there were about 8 plecos and 4 ADF's floating at the top of the tank and the plecos were eating them.

For me it would be a choice between 2, first one is a tiny shop that tries to sell both fish and birds in an area thats not large enough to sell one type properly, stinks to death like uncleaned birdcages, and the tanks are usually 1/2 green. I've been in there a few times and never walked out with anything. The other choice would be a large petstore (pet city) most of their equipment would be half again to twice as much as anywhere else I've seen, fish wise while they have an excellent selection including (supposed) german imports, bar one exception I've never had a fish survive more than 72 hours from them, they also deliberatly misname/misidentify fish.

Mine is one next to my old work, imaginitvly named 'The Pet Shop' (they must have been up all night thinking of that one).....anyway, their tanks are rank rotten, fish always have whitespot or they are dull with clamped fins....thing is they often get in nice fish but they always end up dying in the shop after a few days....they never seem to learn.

.....its like death row for fish!

Pet City is pure evil. Their fish selection is awesome,
but as you said, everything is soooo over priced. i would never, ever buy from there.

One big pet shop semi near me that doesn't take bed care of just fish, but everything else too... Some of the fish are sold at normal prices but are mostly ill... Others are semi ill and way overpriced... I once saw marlboro red Discus at 150$ a piece... They constantly heavily overstock their tanks: 100 neons in a 15 US gallon... They miss stock the tanks very offten: south american puffers (adults) with rams... They give bad info: you can have 4-5 goldies in this tank (10 US gallons!!!)... Altough they have a big range of equipment it's heavily overpriced: amonia test kit: 15$+... The list goes on and on...

That's mine... It feels good to let it out...

Pets At Home easily the worst Pet store ever!

While they stock good hardware for fish tanks, and a range of plants, there information on the fish themselves is appalling. Staff tend to just read of the labelled tanks for information on this fish - and often the lables haven't been updated so they are reading info on a completely different fish!

The last two occasions I visited there I was appalled, they told me crap about corys and guppies, it really was shocking!

Pet Supply Warehouse. Over half of the fish had ich the last time I went there  !

I haven't been to a Pets at Home for years because the fish section was just full of dead fish. It used to really upset my son when he was younger.

Basically I don't think that there is anywhere near me that really knows what they are talking about.

I visited a Ripleys Waterlife Superstore yesterday (first time and last). Nightmare!!! Dead fish, in tanks, filthy open tanks with water level nearly to the top (2 cm below) and dead fish (obviously jumped out) on the floor. Whilst we were walking around we came across a small fire in one of the unfilled display aquariums - billowing smoke and they hadn't even noticed. Funny how quickly they moved when I told them though.

The worst thing was they had an outdoor fish section - with some beautiful sturgeon and some very large (bloated type goldfish - don't know what they are called). Anyway, there was one "goldfish" in there which looked dead and the others were trying to eat it. I couldn't just leave it lying there so I picked up the net and tried to fish it out only to find that it was still breathing (just). So I put it straight back and told them about it so they could do something. They never went near it, we left the shop about 15 minutes later at 5.10pm (due to close at 5.30pm) and they were all putting their coats on. Needless to say I won't be going there again.
:grr:
