I've got 2 tiny tanks in the garage, and I always thought that theywere too small to do anything fishy with, so i just left them there, and just use one if I have a sick fish, or whatever, and was vaguely thinking about stick insects or something for the other.
But then I read last night that PFK were giving away some really small tanks (wish I'd seen that while the offer was still on!!) and I think mine are actually slightly bigger, they both hold 27 litres, after substrate(not counting plants etc though)
Do you think its a possibility? And what sort of fish do you think, obviously I'd need something very small. I was hoping to keep about 6 or 8, depending on the size, but even my white clouds looked a bit oversized for the tank when I had them in there (also used as a quarantine tank), and I only had 3 of those!!

Sounds like this is big enough as a nano tank- for nano fish. There are quite a few species that would fall into this category: ember tetras, kitty tetras, various species of microrasbora (brigittae, maculata, urophtalmoides), spotted blue-eye rainbows. The main problem would be finding these fish. Pygmy corys would probably be ok. Heterandria formosa is another possibility. Or there are some rarer small livebearers that are really tiny. Might well be some suitable killifish. Or you could do a shrimp tank. Or a betta tank.

yup just what DG said. it's fine but will require some careful planning :good:

I'm getting quite excited now!! Any idea where I can get any info on any of these fish though, cos they're not listed in any of my books. My lfs certainly wouldn't have any.
Also, any recommendations of type of filter? If they were v. small fish, I'd be concerned about them swimming into it.
How many nano fishes could I reasonably expect to keep in a tank this size?

google is your friend ;)

work on a bit less than the " per gallon rule.

For a stockist, I would look up Wholesale Tropicals in London, their stocklist is online and they do a lot of this type of fish.

the tropicalfishfinder website does descriptions of fish as well as listing lfs.

Something like a Stingray filter should be fine. Or even a sponge filter.

Too small. Danios need space to move, at least 2 foot, but 3 foot is much better, and they need to be in bigger groups. 3-4 puffers seems too many.
