this is the 1st time i've been on this and i have a question about my guppies.............. i wanna kno wat the normal and healthy ratio for feamle 2 male guppies in a guppy fry batch out of 90 fry.

thanks :D Jenn

When fry develop, the males are the last to develop their sexual features as all fry appear female when first born and it may take some time for all the males to become apparent as many are slow developers and develop their sexual organs at different speeds. You should start to rehome the males once they start to become apparent to help prevent inbreeding amoungst the brothers and sisters or have any unesarsary breeding :) .

Tokis-Pheonix thanks for the reply but that doesn't anser my question.......... yes my males are almost adults i've had them a long time and they've already formed color and sexual organes....... i kno i hav 2 take them out soon because they'll inbread and i don't want any messed up fish. lol but can any1 anser my question wats the ratio from male 2 female.................. if u hav an anser or jus some input feel frre 2 rite it

thanks xoxoxox Jenn  :)

I usually find my batches pretty much even. Some go more towards female, some go more towards male. But basically, it's split down the middle. Don't worry too much about the ratio though, as every Guppy is different, and every batch is different. Some are even all one sex, but that is rare, and usually only happens with small batches.

Did that answer the question, or am I also missing the point?

Not sure Anastasia, but for stocking you should have at least 1male per 2-3females although the more females the better.

well thats wierd because with the looks of it out of all my 60 fry they all look like females -_-

Yep. They all will. Males develop later, and they often look like females until the very end. Then you look one day, see their gonopodium and notice you have males! :) Some get this at different speeds though. It might be apparent earlier in some, and later in others. But I can pretty much guarantee you will have some males.

ow thats good then (but they have the anal fins that are the same as females) and some of them have a redy blacky coloured thing near there anal fin where females normal keep there babies. :S

Well, the ones with the spot may be females. However, they all are going to look like they have fan shaped fins a little, and this will turn out to be a gonopodium in some. Unless you have an all female batch which is VERY rare, maybe even impossible.

it all depends on a lot of things...to say that they "should be half and half" is incorrect....if there are more male hormones in the water, generally more females will be produced, and vice versa....

and paige, i thought you have fry that are months old? and you still say they are all female? maybe you need to start keeping them in heated tanks if they are developing that slow........
