Hi, i have be keeping tropical fish for 5 or so years now and has gone quite successfully (if i may so myself!), but it just came to me that i know nothing else about other forms of keeping fish i.e. freshwater, saltwater etc. This made me wonder what is the easiest form of fishkeeping, where you need as little knowledge/tank maintenance as possible?

I'm sorry if this question is a little silly, its just i'm getting on a bit now and i'd like to have a nice set up with 20 or so fish where i don't have to do much apart from feed them!!

Thanks all

Nick

tropical in my opinion easiest, all u need to worry about are temp & water levels.
for marine and things what i gather is there are alot more parameters u need to worry about.

Well, if we are talking about one type of aquarium, I think that a jam-jar with some sand and a moss ball under a lamp with a few coldwater snails is prety much unbeatable. Just weekly water changes of 100% and a flake or two a day.

Ease is kind of what you make it in once sense. If you over filter and understock, almost any tank is easy as you don't have to water changes as often and aren't as likely to have water quality issues. The hard part really is getting it cycled to begin with. Even that is pretty simple if you do a fishless cycle. Also, the size of the tank can make a difference. Generally, the larger the tank, the less likely it is to have issues with water quality.

As for saltwater, I haven't had a SW tank before but my son does. He says that once the tank is cycled and established that SW is easier. The key part though is getting it going so that you don't lose any fish. SW fish are a lot more expensive than FW fish. For what you pay for even a cheap SW fish, you could about buy a full school of tetras.
