What's The Difference?

I just discovered seven fry in my molly and platy tank. The only problem; I don't know who dropped them! I thought it might have been my painted platy, but I can still see some black dots in her gravid spot, so maybe it wasn't her. It may have been one of my mollies that dropped them . . . so, how do I tell if the fry are molly or platy fry? If I at least knew which kind they were, I might be able to determine who dropped them.

It's hard to tell. Platies tend to be a little chubbier and smaller, while Mollies are a little larger and thinner, but they look very similar as young fry. Usually you can tell by color, but you don't seem to have that luxury. I'd wait a few days, and see if they change at all. You should be able to tell for sure in a few weeks, max.

They look like Molly to me... but then again I've never seen platy fry =/

well they dont look like a platy fry but then again i never seen a molly fry lol. Platy fry look more squashed. Guess its a molly Let anastacia quote on that tho.

I'd go with Molly. My Platy fry don't look like that, they look....not fatter, per se, but wider. Those fry just look Mollyish.

Watch them obviously become Platies in 2 weeks.

Well, only two of them are left. I'm so disappointed! I've NEVER had problems with my guppy fry being sucked into the filter, but for some reason, these baby molly (or whatever they are) fry always get sucked into the filter! I'm going to have to purchase a new tank and use a sponge filter for them I guess. In the mean time, I've shut off the filter to the fry tank so I don't lose the last two.

What is up with these fry and the filter? I even have one feeder guppy fry in the tank that is TINY and it doesn't EVER get sucked into the filter.

I'm so confused as to why this is!?
