Whats The Difference Between Neon Tetras And Tetras

Hi guys, i was wondering round my lfs the other day as i was hoping to by 6 neon tetras and when i did come to the neon tetras tank with a lable saying neon tetras, there was a tank right next door to them with a lable just saying tetras.
I was just wondering what is the difference between tetras and neon tetras?
The only thing i could notice is that the neon tetras were bigger than the tetras, and the colouration between the both were exactly the same.
So whats that difference guys?

tetras are a whole species type there are lots of different types, like neons or cardinals. i think they are just not labeling them correctly

'Tetra' is just a name people give to lots of different fish, see here.

I think they were either just being lazy, or it was an assorted tetras tank and neons were the only ones left.

Tut tut my lfs, so lazy.
Its a shame that i was expecting an explanation lol.
By the way the tetras were 80p each and the neon tetras were £1.15 each.
