this weekend im probably going to have to move 2 of my tanks, and i wondered what the best way to go about it is......meaning..what to do wiv fish...gravel filters etc....

Umm, I'd say put fish in a bucket (with water, obviously), just leave enough in the tank to cover the gravel. Then move it downstairs, put water in and fish a few at a time. Or something. Actually, I'd keep the old water if the tanks aren't too massive.

im afriad that if i pick the thank up wiv gravel in it the bottom will fall off...

I would remove the gravel, not really for the reason of the bottom falling out but mainly because carrying tanks downstairs isn't the easiest of things but when you have a couple of inches of wet gravel in the bottom it's going to be bloody heavy!!

just use a dust pan to scoop it out into a bucket.

I moved my tank from my room on the top floor of rez down two flights of stairs, into the van, across town, and then up another flight of stairs into my grandparents house.

I left about 2" of water, all my sand, plants, and decorations in the tank.

My dad helped me carry it, but if an 18 year old girl and a 53 year old man can carry a 15g tank with that much crap in it, it can't be that hard.

I wouldn't worry about the gravel, tbh..

Yeah i agree gravel/sand is extremely heavy in tanks, i'd just put everything into buckets and try and save as much as old water from the tanks as posible; i would try not to leave the filters turned off for too long though so get those setup in the tank when its in its new position first

I would remove the gravel and all the water. Take about half of the water and put it in buckets to use in the tank again. Take the tank downstairs and put the gravel in. I'm sure you can handle it from there. :)

thanks guys...god i can see this is going to be a chore! but its worth it! :D

moving tanks isn't fun!! i'll be taking my 4ft downstairs in a month or so now that was an ass lifting it up the stairs empty, so everythings coming out of there!!

by the way which tank are you moving, in my earlier post i have since re calculated and it was a 35g i moved with gravel, although it was a walk through the park for me, my mum was having troubles....who does alot of gardening so isn't weak by all means.

looking at your sig you could probable leave the gravel in your 2 smaller tanks, as long as you have 2 people to lift, if your doing it by your self empty them out!!

i will be moving the 20G down 2 flights of stairs argh lol but wiv 2 people, so ill be able to leave the gravel in...its an acrylic tank will that be ok...im really worried the bottom will fall off lol...how does it hold all the weight of the stones...and the 18g will be moving out of house....to a new home but that has a polystyrene and wooden support underneath it so im not worried about taking that stones out of that.

I believe acrylic tanks are like ten times stronger then glass ones. Just try not to scratch it as they scratch easier than glass tanks. It would suck to move it down two flights of stairs only to find that you have put a huge scratch across the front. I'd think of maybe taping towels over the sides or something, just make sure they don't go over the bottom as this would make it difficult to carry.

thanks for the advice guys..no i just have to do it....
