Whats The Best Way To Clean Plastic Plants From Old Tank?

had a tank in the shed for about 5 months now with some plants in and i want to put them in my new tank I'm getting tomorrow and i want to no the best way to clean them before they go in?

Soak em in 1 part bleach to two parts water for a little while, rub whatever you can off, rinse and repeat if necessary. Make sure to give them a good rinse after the soaking otherwise you might be dealing with some dead fishies!!!



Personally I'd ditch the fake things. They get pretty dirty and gross looking: real plants don't. It'll be a small investment (depending on your tank size) but its way worth it.

Dont run them under water that is too hot e.g. straight from the hot tank/kettle without mixing some cold in - they dont stand up to it

For any hard to get dirt off I found using an old toothbrush works great if you dip the brush in a cup of boiling hot water and then use lots of elbow grease!

I too use to use plastic plants and they seem to be great at first....but now that I have some real plants I dont think I could ever go back!

GL cleaning em off and cant wait to see the tank!!!

thanks! I'm in the bathroom cleaning the gravel in a big bucket atm! iv been in ther for about an hour now! lol

yep i agree an old toothbrush is my tool of choice with a bit of salt to act as an abrasive

Dont forget you'll have to let that tank cycle for at least a month before adding fish!!! I did the dumb thing : Let the water sit for two hours, come back with five fish and watch four of the slowly die over the next 72 hours
