whats the best filter

i had alittle filter i thought would work for my fry but they got sucked up in it so now i want to know what is the safeist filter for my little fry? the filter was a wisper filter not sure of the name but it took a medium carbin cartrage and came in a 2.5 gal. aquarium kit

I always use air driven sponge filters in fry tanks. In addition to being fry safe, their surface becomes colonised by all manner of small animals, rotifers etc., which the fry will eat. I often find my fry hanging out by the sponge filters.

I mature several sponge filters for a few weeks in a normal tank before spawning so they are effective immediately when introduced into the fry tank.

Get a sponge for an aquaclear mini cut a hole in it just big enough to slip over filter intake tube, make sure it completely covers existing strainer , this will stop fry from being sucked up. Cost you about a $1.
