I've noticed for the past few days, maybe a week, a line of what look like eggs in the front corner of my tank. Now i know it certainly isn't from my male guppies, but i also have neon tetras, and dwarf cockatoo chichlids. I don't think it's either of them as the tetras are scatterers, and the cichlids are much more territorial about their breeding.

They could of course just be from the numerous snails i have in my tank. It did look however as if some were developing eyes and a tail, but they really were too small to see properly. I need a magnifying glass! That said, they have just been eaten by my cockaytoo cichlids. Cest la vie, i don't have another tank to raise them in anyway.

In related news, one of my female cockatoo's looks like she's about ready to pop. You think i'm about to have the arrival of a number of cockatoo cichlids in the near future? :good:

Bump!

Any ideas guys, i would really like the cockatoo's to breed if they're going to. By the same token if it is the snails, i'll remove it if i see any more!

Any pics, even with a camera phone, would help somewhat!

The spawn has now gone, mainly eaten by my cockatoo cichlids.

I thought the cockatoo's would be too terratorial to let their eggs be eaten, especially by another cockatoo. If I see any more i'll try and send some pics.

Some cichlids will spawn hap hazardly, especially if they are a young pair, just starting out, so to speak. If disturbed they will eat their eggs and sometimes the subsequent fry. If conditions are right (temp, water quality etc) then Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlids (Apistogramma cacatuoides) will spawn readily in a community aquarium.
Keep an eye out, if it was the cockatoo's that spawned they will attempt it again at some point.

P.S. give them peace to get on with the job in hand.

I've just noticed a small "blob" of eggs on the front glass at the other side of the tank, so here's hoping!

P.S. give them peace to get on with the job in hand.

They are young fish, only had them just over a week myself and they are about a half to two thirds the size they will probably end up. I have no means of separating them the eggs or subsequent fry to another tank, so i'll just have to leave them to it.

The Apistogramma cacatuoides (must learn that) are really great fish. The colouring is not bright like a guppy, but very expressive. Especially the dark bands that appear, very quickly sometimes. I get a better camera phone this week, so i'll try and put some pics on later.

Just a quick update, the cichlids have been spawning again left a few eggs on a leaf in the middle of the tank. Is it normal behaviour to lay a few eggs here and there, or will they eventually choose a breeding site and spawn loads of eggs?

UPDATE!!!!!

Here's a pic of what i think are some eggs under my bogwood.

It's the little blue cluster, not the white things (i think they're a fungus of some type!)

Any ideas.
