Slowly creeping up on year 2 of fish keeping, im hanging in there. i started with a bala shark some silver dollars, and wow now i got more fish then i know what to do with. Really, im stuck whats next? i got a 55 gal, 2 bala sharks 2 jack dempseys, and a bunch of young convicts with a pleco to top it off. Ive breed the convicts, breed some africans, now im ready for my next journey.
What is the next journey.......
here are the tanks i have and what in them.
55gal mentioned above
30 gal with 7 silver dollars
25 gal 3 goldfish, and a pleco with misc cory cats
20 gal with some mixed tetras

please help me im losein the bug, need some changes, any ideas or suggestions?

Well my suggestion to myself..... get active in forums, and talkin to people.... anyone in northeran illinois intrested in tradeing some fish or breeding pairs, or some thing email me,...... brockswanlund@yahoo.com....
no stupid emails or real fish keepers

just a suggestion, but you might wanna look up aquarium clubc in your region. most clubs hold weekly or monthly meetings where you can trade fish and so on...

ok for a start 55 gallons is not big enough for all those fish together. the jack dempseys will grow big and aggressive and probably kill the balas and other fish in the tank. also balas need to be in larger shoals and a 55 gallon isnt big enough for that.

a 30 gallon for that amount of silver dollars isnt big enough either as silver dollars grow quite big.

goldfish are coldwater fish and shouldnt be put in a tropical environment.

some suggestions of how you could fix this could be to get rid of the jack dempseys and balas and put the silver dollars in the 55 gallon. or get rid of some of the silver dollars and keep them in the 30 gallon (however this still isnt really big enough), balas and one jack dempsey and keep the other jack dempsey in the 55 gallon by itself.

maybe get rid of the goldfish entirely or put them in a coldwater set up.

HTH and good luck :)

How about stocking your tanks properly? All of your tanks are either MASSIVELY overstocked or mixes of fish that DON'T MIX!!!!! For example, no way can 7 silver dollars prosper in a 30 gallon tank. Goldfish and cory catfish should not be mixed. And please don't give me that " It seems to be working now" Just because a fish is alive does not mean its doing well or prospering as it should.

Okay, enough of my ranting.....
