I wouldn't go much higher than it is now.

Fluval 204 Bigal's

That is a US link for $49.95 so I figure you can buy them new for the same straight or equivalent in the UK.

Adding in the cost of Media, Hoses, Shipping, and the broken clamp drops the value tremendously because a new one includes all of this.

Personally, I wouldn't go with the fluval at all... Had it, tried it, really disappointed in quality, gave back for eheim, been happy ever since.

Got to agree with konrad, Eheim are the rolls royce of external fiters, much better than Fluval IMO. I've got the 2224 in my 42gal and it's as quiet as a mouse. The best price I've found is £74.25 HERE. I know its a bit pricey, but you get a great product for the money. HTH

If he can afford Ehiem, that's great, but some can't. I have a Fluval 404 and overall I am happy with it. I'm actually buying a Fluval 304 for the tank I'm putting together for my Sister's family for christmas.

It all comes down to what he can afford. If he can afford a Ehiem, great, if not a Fluval is not a bad filter.

also note that it dosn't come with media...

when we got our 304 - likewise it didnt come with media and that on its own was about £25

1x £12 for bioballs
2x £6 for filter pads

or there abouts.
