OK... so I woke this morning to find my favourite Betta dead at a really young age :-(

I've just got home now to find one of the platties in the same tank also dead :-(

Two fish in one day - WHY! It's not fair :-( :-( :-(

I straight away did a water test and NitrIte and Ammonia are 0, pH is a steady 7.5 NitrAte is the lowest it has been in ages, lowest bar on test chart.
The tank is about 7 months old.

I always make sure I don't get chemicals near the tank and the last water change was on Saturday (and I did de-chlroinate the water because I can remember thinking I need to get some more).

Also, the Gourami's are looking a little sad, staying on bottom of tank etc.

All the fish had frozen bloodworm yesteday in the afternoon and normal flakes in the morning. I haven't fed them yet today.

All fish had been in tank together for about 3 months.

Any ideas why this is happening??? :/

aside from looking a bit sad, how are the fish (including the dead ones looking) any marks, funny colour patches, spots etc on them, are they swimming normally, rubbing on plants/decor anything else like that?

You could try adding salt, that perks fish up if they're a bit sad and can kill diseases, not sure the exact quantities though and you need to be careful if you have any catfish in there, sure someone else can give a bit more info on it if thats the way you want to go :)

Could have a bacterial infection in your tank, are the fish resting on things in the tank, laying to one side on the gravel, gone pale or darkened in colour, what it look like when the fish go to the toilet, also has there breathing got more rapid.

Just woke up to find i'd lost a Peppered Cory. Two of my Kissing Gourami's are knocking on death's door as well. It is a bacteria infection - I know this for sure now. So, if I just increase aeration, do a water change now and then nip to the shops and get some anti-fungus treatment there isn't really much more I can do is there??

Timmy... is this the tank that you cleaned out last week? if you gave it a good scrub, then the maturity of the tank will have dropped off..

Squid

how odd then...

i wonder what brings these things on then..

any new fish?

Sorry to hear - this isn't the tank you added the 6 new babs too ?

Ps: from this thread it seems that this was indeed the tank with the new fish. My guess is they brought something into the tank. Check your fish closely for signs of disease.

No, that was my other tank aswell!!

I've lost the two kissing gourami's now as well :-(

I'm losing the whole stock :-( :-(

Is it possible that the frozen bloodworm could have carried a disease with them that laid dormant until they were defrosted?

Sorry for your losses as well! RIP fishes

Was it from the same cube? Cant think of anything else that might have caused something like that, perhaps something got into the water you used? Did you only clean out the one tank that night or all? Sorry just pondering out loud

That's just very odd :/ do they have any physical signs? Do they appear healthy and eating and then just drop dead ? Did you change any filter sponges/media recently ?
Do you now what your ammonia and nitrite readins are ?

I'd do a gravel vac and 30% water change for the time being. Any chance of some photos of ill/diseased fish ?

OK...

Natsuko - Yes, both tanks got bloodworm from the same cube! Yes, it was only one tank (the infected tank) that I cleaned that night.

Bloo - There aren't any physical signs (everything points to an internal bacteria infection/fungus) All the death's are unexplained. They eat, swim normally and then die :-(
No, I haven't touched the filter media recently! And my Ammonia and NitrIte readings are both 0ppm

I'd do a gravel vac and 30% water change for the time being.

But there's internal bacterial infection treatment in there and a water change would take that out. Also, I did a water change yesterday.
