hi all,

i have had my platies for about 3 weeks now and today they have started doing something strange.....Two of them are darting around the tank like there is no tomorrow and the other two are in my big plant collection, one is sitting in the leaves and the other on the floor under the leaves, they have been there all day (although moving around in the leaves every now and then)

They were fine first thing this morning, and ate well. But now im a bit worried.

Is this normal behaviour?

I was also wondering if maybe they were pregnant (i have 2 male and 2 female) the two females have quite big tummys but i havent seen any gravid spots

Please help :( :( :(

hi,
how longs the tank been running for? have you a test kit, if so whats the water stats.
livebearers should be 2-3 females per male, to avoid stress to the females.
if they def are female you may not be able to see the gravid spot, esp if they are a dark colour, like orange/red. donna :)

The tank has been set up for about 3months, i test the water every week and its fine (all levels are at the norm) i also do water changes every week.

When i fisrt got the platies (i had never had them before) i was told they were all female (shows how much they know) When i got home i checked the website and it turns out i had 2 of each, i remember reading somewhere about 2-3 females to one male, but they seemed to get slong fine, until reccently.

I will go to my LFS tomorrow and get some more female Platies and hopefully they will be happier.

Thanks for your advice
Emx
