Whats Going On?

been cycling tank with 4 platties for 3 weeks now.

ammonia - 0
nitrIte - 2.0
nitrAte - 40

am i nearly there? its doing my head in!

Its hard to tell its just a waiting game my 31g took 4 weeks to cycle but my 55G only took 3 weeks

is the nitrite spike an indication that its nearly done. i can remeber my other tank taking so long

Why not just use some filter media from your other tank to jumpstart this tank? It would make things much easier on the cycling fish.

But didn't you have another tank before this ? Why didn't you just clone it ?

Exactly but obviously not too much from your existing filter or there will not be enough to sustain it for the current inhabitants. You'll have to monitor both though for any mini spike.
