whats going on with my tank??

hello y,all

i don't know whats going on with my 29,gal tank . i have some screwed up readings with my water . my amm is 2.0 and nitrite is 5.0 then i also have nitrate 40. i thought my tank cycled about 1 1/2 mons ago because ,it went thru its changes then everything was alright .now this is happening what is going on "can anyone tell me,,,, please thank you in advance petkeeper2

Have you cleaned any filter sponges in the last day or two, and how often do you maintain the tank.

hi wilder ,,,,,,,,,,>>no i didn't change anything in it at all. i did feed my fish a little bit of brine shrimp and i do mean a little.but i do have a few snails in it could that make a diffrence with the water?? oh yeah ,i change the filter once a month and 20% of the water every week and the reading are usually ok like that. but now i don't know whats going on . i thought if you had nitrite you don't have amm and if you have nitrate you don't have nitrite. so whats going on do you know my friend?? i'm lost now bye 4 now petkeeper2
