Hey everyone, im new here, first post ever! Woot woot!
Anyways, heres my problem that im hoping you guys can help me out with.
Im trying to breed my guppies and platies, and for some reason it isnt working! Here is what I have, I have 2 male platies (one I just purchased two days ago, cuz the other one wasnt getting it done) the one male that I have had I think is an orange moon platy? Not sure though, and I have had him for a year and a half along with a blue female platy, also have had in the same tank for a year and a half. They have paired off and share all their time together, yet, I have NEVER had babies from her.... ever! She is large, and im talking, the biggest platy I have ever seen! Anyways, I just purchased 2 more females, probably about a month ago. The sunset platy looks pregnant, but im thinking it was previously mated with, as I ever never seen the male around her, and the other one is a rainbow platy, and the orange moon HATES her! He aggressivly attacks her, whenever she is around "his" blue female, so I went and got another male platy yesterday, and of course, he stole the blue female away from the orange male, although the orange male hasnt been attacking him or anything. I watched the new male court the female and mate with her, so im hoping for babies. But yet, the new male doesnt want anything to do with the rainbow female either! Ahh.
As for the guppies, I have a 2 year old female guppy, again, NO babies from her. She has shown signs of pregnancy before, but never have seen any babies, eating them all maybe? You'd think at least one would live. Anyways, I think she is getting too old to have babies now, so I purchased a new female 2 days ago, so im hoping for babies there. But seriously, whats the deal? I've had them for SO long and yet no babies!
The set up is as fallows: 10g (used to be in 55g, but put different fish in there) gravel on bottom with accent stones (for babies to hide when first born) 2 fake plants, breeder grass, a cave, and some rock work, with little caves in there too. Plenty of places for babies to hide! The temperature is at 76 degrees.
